Cape Town has one of the best locations to see the Sunset from the Sea. Fabulous Table Mountain and city views while the sun dips into the sea at sunset. This is certainly a "must do" trip whilst visting Cape Town.We serve a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. Cash Bar available.Kids are welcome , but remember it is an adult cruise. SUNSET UNDER SAIL The Sail boats SPIRIT OF VICTORIA and ESPERANCE follow the wind for this cruise. They do not offer a specific destination . Typically they motor out of the Harbour and sail across Table Bay towards Milnerton lighthouse, then return to the protection of Granger Bay in the lee of Table Mountain to watch the sun set, and then motor back to the Waterfront. SUNSET on a Motor Vessel. The Motor Vessels’ CONDOR, SEA PRINCESS and SOUTHERN CROSS follow a different route to the sail boats. They can offer a destination and normally cruise slowly along the Atlantic seaboard towards Clifton beach and return...

Sunset Cruise Departure Times -and why they change |
|
We try to arrange the departure of our Sunset Champagne Cruise around the time of the Sunset .This cruise is designed to catch the Sunset and catchs both daylight before and Nautical twilight and then darkness after . As the Sun sets at a different time every day it would be impractical to have a different Sunset Cruise departure time every day . We therefore have set departure times over the year between 17h00 and 19h00 SAST ( South African Standard Time ).The Amount of daylight / twilight / darkness therefore also changes with each cruise .We move the departure times in 30 minute increments 17h00,17h30,18h00,18h30 and 19h00 and then back downwards again as we move to midwinter . History of Sunset Cruise Departure Time Time moved earlier to 17h30 on the 09th April 2010 ( Actual Sunset would be 18h31) Time moved earlier to 18h00 on the 15th March 2010 ( 3 1/2 Months after New Year ) Time moved earleir to 18h30 on the 15th February 2010 Time moved later to SUMMER seeting of 19h00 on the 16Th November 2009 Time moved later to 18h30 on the 3rd October 2009 Time moved later to 18h00 from the 1st September 2009 ( 4 Months before New Year )
- Definitions of Twilight
Civil Twilight Civil twilight is defined when the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon. This is the limit at which twilight illumination is sufficient, under good weather conditions, for terrestrial objects to be clearly distinguished; at the beginning of morning civil twilight, or end of evening civil twilight, the horizon is clearly defined and the brightest stars are visible under good atmospheric conditions in the absence of moonlight or other illumination. In the morning before the beginning of civil twilight and in the evening after the end of civil twilight, artificial illumination is normally required to carry on ordinary outdoor activities. Nautical Twilight Nautical twilight is defined when the sun is 12 degrees below the horizon. At the beginning or end of nautical twilight, under good atmospheric conditions and in the absence of other illumination, general outlines of ground objects may be distinguishable, but detailed outdoor operations are not possible, and the horizon is indistinct. Astronomical Twilight Astronomical twilight is defined when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon. Before the beginning of astronomical twilight in the morning and after the end of astronomical twilight in the evening the sun does not contribute to sky illumination; for a considerable interval after the beginning of morning twilight and before the end of evening twilight, sky illumination is so faint that it is practically imperceptible.
